Refrigeration cycle structure — Refrigerator vs. LNG plant
The principle of the 4-stage heat transfer process is the same, only the scale differs
Household refrigerator
1
Compress refrigerant with a compressor → Temperature rises
2
Release heat to indoor air through the back coils
3
Expand refrigerant through a narrow tube → Temperature drops sharply
4
Absorb heat from food inside the refrigerator
LNG liquefaction plant
1
Compress mixed refrigerant with a large compressor
2
Release heat to the atmosphere/sea using air-cooled or seawater-cooled heat exchangers
3
Expand refrigerant → Temperature drops to near -162℃
4
Absorb heat from natural gas in the main heat exchanger and liquefy it
Both systems repeat the same 4-stage cycle of compression-release-expansion-absorption
